Bookplates
There are many different ways to physically mark one’s book ownership: a signature at the front of the book, personal notes, a unique binding, and of course bookplates. Like a signature on the title page, the bookplate gives us an immediate link to a previous owner. In A Letter Written by the King of Nauarr to the Three Estates of Fraunce, you can find Henry J.B. Clements’ bookplate—the same man who spoke to the Bibliographic Society about the bookplates’ value for book historians and is quoted in the exhibit description.
